Rob Mullins is no stranger to the music education scene. He has taught privately throughout his 25 year career as a jazz and pop musician /composer and continues to teach privately in the Los Angeles area. You can also come to a free concert by Rob and his band June 19th 2003 at Fields Piano in Santa Ana at 7pm....the same venue where the Summer Workshop will be held.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP DAY:
This workshop day is a unique opportunity for students of all ages to gain valuable insight from a full time career professional who has done everything from gigs around the world as Bruce Willis' keyboardist to running his own publishing company while just out of high school. In addition to composing two number one singles for saxophonist Eric Marienthal, Rob received a Grammy Nomination for his Soulscape album and has a new CD out for the Yamaha Disklavier called "Welcome to Planetmullins!"
In THE MUSIC BUSINESS WORKSHOP Rob will describe career skills, planning, and survival skills necessary to make it in the music business.
THE PIANO WORKSHOP will focus on how to create the sound of various styles of music with simple and easy to understand chord voicings that instantly give the listener the sound of a particular style of music.
THE IMPROVISATION WORKSHOP will feature Rob's secret techniques that have only been available to his individual private students before now and all instrumentalists and singers interested in building improvisational skills will gain valuable insight into this musical skill...

Recent music education landmarks for Rob Mullins include:
1. Rob created the "student2artist" program in 2001
in which he uses his own curriculum to take students from the beginning
levels, all the way to recording their own artist CD with professional
musicians. The first student2artist
CD will be released summer of 2003 and features Rob Mullins student Mario
Tse, a 41 year old dentist from Pasadena who recorded his CD in two days
with professional musicians.
2. Rob has been hired by Fullerton College jazz band director
Dr. Gregory Woll to coach the Fullerton #1 band for their summer CD recording.
The Fullerton band releases a CD each year. Last year, they won the
Downbeat Magazine award for “Best College Jazz Band” in the nation for their
division.
3. Rob wrote the book "Jazz Chord Voicings for
Blues, Rock and Classical Musicians" which has been so successful educationaly
as a self published book that the Hal Leonard Publishing company will be
releasing it worldwide this fall.
4. Rob’s Jazz Piano workshop
at the University of Utah last year was so successful that the Park
City Jazz Festival committee has hired him to teach at their jazz festival
Aug. 2003.
5. Rob’s last local workshop was held at Fields
Piano L.A. store on the topic of film and TV composing in 2001.
