Hi there, and welcome to my 2002 Jazz Workshops Page. Over 4th of July weekend in 2002, I had the pleasure of performing at the Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival. While I was there in Salt Lake, I taught a Jazz Workshop at the University of Utah using my new book "Jazz Chord Voicings for Blues, Rock, and Classical Musicians."

In this picture, I am working with a singer and showing the attendees how different chord voicings support the vocalist style. We tried various voicings with great results. I really enjoy having different students
come up and play so I can help them
determine the strengths and weaknesses in their playing.
I get animated demostrating how playing your music can be when you are doing it like a pro.

Another attendee joins me onstage. "The best voicings in the world don't sound right unless you execute the rhythm correctly." The students had me laughing during the class. I always present my material with a sense of humor. These people were a lot of fun. Here a girl I called "Brown Shirt" during the workshop plays her first great sounding jazz chords on the piano to applause from the other workshop participants.

available at sheetmusicplus.com Before I wrote this book, I looked at all the material out there. I checked out the John Mehegan Books, Mark Levine's Jazz Piano Book, John Novello's book, and they were all great books, but I felt that a student would have to slug through weeks and weeks of study and lessons to grasp the chord material correctly. My student Tom Heller agreed. I put in this book the teaching material that only my private students get and, IT WORKS!. It is also very fast!
You can be playing great sounding chords in just a few minutes with this book. Click on the book cover to read more about it.
Special thanks go to the Salt Lake City Intertnational Jazz Festival and University of Utah for this great music education experience we had. I am looking forward to
more teaching opportunities and would love to come to your city and college to share my knowledge.
Send email with questions and comments or to book a workshop for your college or music store.
