July 2002 News

Los Angeles, CA-July 2, 2002

Hello Everyone.

As you regs of this page know, when a month goes by and there is no monthly update, it means that I am swamped with things to do other than update the site,
and that was certainly the case in June.
My old friend Jack Wood put together a nice weekend for me coming up this weekend with a special performance at the Salt Lake City Jazz Festival. I agreed to do a performance there with the Jerry Floor Big Band. I also agreed to compose a new song for the occassion. It had been awhile since I did a big band tune,
and this new song I just completed, "The Salt Lake City Shuffle" was the first big band tune I scored using a computer notation program.
I had no idea what I was in for and how difficult and complex it was going to be. Over 100 hours of time went into the four minute song that I will play this weekend, mostly because of limitations of the software as well as the learning curve of figuring the program out. I'm thrilled with the results of the song though, and Jerry Floor up in Salt Lake is doing the printing for me which really helps out a ton. Thanks Jerry!

I also will be doing a workshop on July 5 at Gardener Hall at the University of Utah based on my book which Jack Wood forwarded to the University right after the book came out in May. I am very excited about sharing what I know about the piano and the business of music with new people. I just really love teaching.
I will have more news about the book and its future in next months newsletter. In the meantime, I was lucky enough to run into a web guy who helped set up online credit card ordering at planetmullins.com. Those of you who know me personally know how leery I've always been of online buying, and finally I have found a company to help with this that is very good and has dealt with all the security standards that I require. The homepage for the store will be done sometime next month, but the store is OPEN right now, and you can get Rob Mullins CD's and my new book with the greatest of ease. Also, Links to my CD's that I don't sell on my site, such as "Dance For The New World", "Tokyo Nights", and
"5th Gear" are all up on the new listeningroom page so that you don't have to hunt for anything on Amazon, CD Now, or anywhere else. We took all of the work out of it for you. Check out the new store at http://planetmullins.com/listeningroom.htm  for CD's and http://planetmullins.com/book.htm for my new book.

MORE FESTIVAL NEWS:I will be doing more festival work coming up soon. Later this month, I will appear at the Snowbird Jazz Festival and in August I will perform with Greg Vail for the City of Riverside's Summer Festival Series. You can read all about that  HERE .   Click on the link on the left that says "Summer Concert Series."
So this means I will not be at Kikuya the first and last weekends of July, but Greg Vail will be there.

OTHER NEWS:

There is so much more to tell, I wish there was time. I'm always so happy to see people coming to the gigs, thanks for all your support out there. For now, I have to run and get back to the workload. Take care everyone, and thanks for staying with me! All the best,

Rob Mullins
