SALT LAKE CITY-(January 12,
1998) “the F.O.C.U.S (Film Offering Children and the Underprivileged
Success) Institute of Film and the Institute at Deer Valley will hold a
benefit concert on Saturday, January 17, 1998, 7:00PM, featuring
celebrity actor/musicians such as, Daphne Zuniga (Melrose Place),
Cheech Marin, Rex Smith, Kim Cattrall, Steven Nichols (General
Hospital), Rob Mullins and numerous surprise mega-stars (to be
announced)-performing to benefit foster children’s college
scholarships, F.O.C.U.S filmaker scholarships, and the Institute at
Deer Valley’s scholarship program,” announced Cheryl DuBois,
F.O.C.U.S’s co-president.
Sponsored by Bonneville Worldwide Entertainment (BWE), Delta Air Lines,
High Mountain Properties, and the Hollywood Reporter, the event will
coincide with the 1998 Sundance Film Festival, offering festival goers
and locals an exciting alternative.
Dubbed “ A
NOTABLE ACT,” the concert will take place at the Silver Lake Lodge-mid
mountain at Deer Valley Resort.
“Aside from its advanced filmmakers mentorship program, F.O.C.U.S’s
goal is to bring opportunity into the lives of children growing up with
no parents or families to support them, by making higher education an
attainable goal,” said Tom Alen, DuBois’ co-president. “Not only has
F.O.C.U.S. designed a way for the motion picture industry to use its
influence and resources to provide scholarships to thousands of foster
youth in America, we have committed proceeds from upcoming events such
as this one in Utah in January, and a grander version of “A Notable
Act” in Los Angeles later in 1998, to enrich these underprivileged
youths’ lives,” added DuBois.
The Institute at Deer Valley, a non-profit organization, was founded in
1975 as the Snowbird Institute for the Arts and Humanities-making its
move to Deer Valley Resort in 1996. The “Institute” supports the
creation, and performance of new works in the arts, and the promotion
of the humanities.
