I started studying with Rob
Mullins to improve my jazz piano playing. After a year of study, he
suggested that I sign up for the Student2Artist Program to make my own
CD. We spent lesson time working on the song arrangements from fake
book charts and Rob created arrangements and showed me how to do the
same for my own recording and live band performances.
We rehearsed with musicians that Rob chose for the project-John Leftwich on bass and Paul Kriebech on drums. We went into the studio and I was so well prepared that we recorded the whole album in two sessions. I have had great response from family and friends to my first CD "Moonlight Standard Time" and have had so many gigging opportunities as a result of working with Rob that I am actually turning down gigs! I would recommend Rob's
Student2artist program to any student wanting tomake a CD and get
connected through Rob's network to further their career.

Mario came to me as a great classical player who wanted work on his jazz soloing. He is a shining star in my program and example of dedication and hard work paying huge dividends. Besides completing the student2artist program and making his own CD, I have already begun sending him out as my substitute on gigs with great results. He performs regularly with the Pasadena City College Big Band and is already popular enough in the jazz community to be turning down work. |
