PASADENA CONCERT:
continued from page one
her saying that Kirk could not do the gig this year. I was pretty blown away to get asked to take over such a big event, but I knew that it was going to be a lot of fun and a very worthy cause, so I accepted the job the next day.

One of the main challenges over the past month or so was figuring out some way to start dealing with the immense set of details that go into puttin on an event of this size while trying to play in my band on Friday's at Spaghettini's, do the China Club All Star gigs whenever they came up, continue touring with Eric, and keep from passing out due to sheer exhaustion.

I hired Nat Scott to help with the project co-ordination for the gig on October 28, and we got started making the phone calls to get artists lined up for the event. The artists you see on the poster to the right are some of the best in LA, if not the world. I have worked with each of them in past situations as well.
Ronnie Laws and I did a lot of recording together in the 90's, and we recorded what I think is his all time best CD which is titled "Brotherhood". We will be featuring songs from that CD on the concert. It is music that has not been ever performed live before.
Dwight Sills of Whitney Houston and Rick Braun fame has recently had a big hit with his version of "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay", and he and I did the "Crusaders" together for a couple years. He is a great player.

Greg Vail was a natural choice for this because he is a great parent, and has done a lot of charity work before and is quite active at Saddleback Church as well as being one of the best musicians around.

Ndugu and Alphonso are LA studio and touring vets with a ton of experience and excitement between them! You just wont believe how great they are until you come see the show. Click on  the poster to the right, and you can read everybody's bios, look at pictures, order tickets online, even become a volunteer for the club if you want.

We will be probably adding a female vocalist to the line up sometime soon, so check with the Club to get more information about added guest stars between now and the event.

All in all, I am thrilled to be hosting and performing this year for such a great cause, and will be looking forward to seeing you and the LA Jazz Community there on October 28 at the Pasadena Civic!

All the best,
